LLI a • Los Altos Hills Open Space Committee Notes Dec 1,2016 Page 2 24990 La Loma Drive The property owner has requested that some trees and steep slope area be excluded from Open Space Easement.The open space easement protects the vegetation within the easement, meaning that there can be no removal of vegetation and trees. If the proposed open space easement on this property is reduced in size,the existing oak trees (not large enough at this time to be defined as "heritage oaks"which would afford them protection) could be removed at any time - now or in the future. Trees and vegetation provide multiple benefits including: • Wildlife habitat •:• Open Space Conservation Area (OSCA)designation at southern border of this property ❖ 4-6 deer present on this property during OSC visit • Reduced storm water runoff volume • Reduced peak flows ❖ Hale Creek at southern border of this property • Increased groundwater recharge ❖ This property is within Santa Clara Basin recharge zone • Soil stabilization ❖ Berrocal fault line along western border of this property • Increased nutrient uptake • Increased aesthetic appeal • Shading The property owner does not lose the use or value or views of their property only the ability to fence or build other structures within the easement.
