Re: Site development permit for LANDS OF KARIAT,25721 La Lame Ct.
Dear Mr. Cahill and planning commission:
I, Sohrab Kianian, owner of the property adjacent and neighboring to the KARIAT
property write in opposition to the proposed development. I would have, very much,
liked to be present at the hearing and personally voice my opposition, however due to an
overseas business trip I am not able to. My preference would be to ask the commission
for delay in hearing so that I can be present. In case that request is not granted, I would
like your consideration of my position, and to have this letter read during the hearing and
entered into the records.
First of all, the neighbors of this property voiced their initial opposition to the massive
development as it is a matter of record. The neighbors' opposition was not to
development itself, but the uncharacteristically large size on a land smaller than most in
the neighborhood, and its incompatibility with the rural nature of the town and the
neighborhood. Now that the structure itself is built, it would be helpful for the
commissioners to take a look and judge first hand what the neighbors were worried about.
The building is practically a four story complex. It has a basement, built for residence.
and bigger in area than most homes surrounding it. The second and third story residence
is at a maximum allowed by the code. Lastly, the chimney stack is taller than any I have
seen, anywhere. In fact, when a roofer, of a normal height, was standing right next to it,
he was shorter than the stack by at least two feet. The chimney is obstructing a large
portion of our view and is unpleasant to look at.
Now the owners are proposing to add another, nearly 840,square footage to the building
site, albeit at ground level. One has to consider that with the massive square footage
residence area, it should be expected that if not immediately, but by its nature, eventually,
a large number of people would occupy this property. Aside from the residence
trafficking through, adding an outdoor entertainment area would guarantee frequent
gathering of even more people all of whom would freely contribute to noise, light and by
the sheer size to nuisance. Furthermore, looking at the plan map one can hardly find any
room left for vegetation and other natural and rural implements to take place.
The developers are proposing to build their entire entertainment section facing and in
intimately close proximity of our.property. This is intrusive to our privacy and quite
enjoyment of our property. While there seems to be available area on other sides of their
property, they have chosen to condense barbeque area, pool equipment area, shower and

changing facilities and any other imaginable building and gathering bits and pieces right
along our neighboring property line. In case you are inclined to approve such a plan I
strongly encourage you to take a moment and consider your feeling had you been in our
shoes.
You,have a responsibility towards all citizens and the, town at large. The professed and
frequently touted slogan of our town council and the commission is to keep the Los Altos
Hills a rural town. I appeal to you to practice what you preach and gee what would be
left of this land to contribute to the town's desired rural character.
In summary, I would like to object vehemently to the proposed additional development
and if in fact there is any more development left for this land to have the builders relocate
it to other sides of the property so as to afford us, at least a minimum privacy..
Sincerely,
Sohrab Kianian
