RESOLUTION NO. 45-12
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
TOWN OF LOS ALTOS HILLS CANCELLING THE NOVEMBER 6,2012
GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION AND PROVIDING FOR THE
APPOINTMENT TO THE OFFICES OF THE TOWN OF LOS ALTOS HILLS
THAT WERE TO BE ELECTED ON TUESDAY,NOVEMBER 6,2012 •
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 10229 of the Elections Code of the State of California,
as of the close of the nomination period on August 15, 2012, there are not more candidates than
offices to be elected and that Section 10229 of the Elections Code allows one of the following
courses of action to be taken by the City Council:
1. Appoint to the office the persons who have been nominated.
2. Appoint to the office any eligible voter if no one has been nominated.
3. Hold the election if either no one or only one person has been nominated.
WHEREAS, as required by Section 10229 of the Elections Code of the State of
California, a notice was published on August 16, 2012 in the San Jose Mercury News, a
newspaper of general circulation and posted in three public places in Town,that there are not
more candidates than offices to be elected;
NOW,THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the Town of Los
Altos Hills does determine and orders as follows:
Section 1. That pursuant to Section 10229 of the Elections Code of the State of
California,the following action is being taken:
The following persons are being appointed to the offices to which they were nominated:
Name Office Term
Courtenay C. Corrigan Member of the Los Altos Hills City Council 4 years
John Harpootlian Member of the Los Altos Hills City Council 4 years
Rich Larsen Member of the Los Altos Hills City Council 4 years
Section 2. The election scheduled to be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 is now
cancelled.
Section 3. The persons appointed, if any, shall qualify and take office and serve
exactly as if elected at a municipal election for the office for terms commencing on the regular
Council meeting following the November 6, 2012 election.
Section 4. Pursuant to Section 10229 of the Elections Code of the State of California,
the City Clerk shall not accept for filing any statement of write in candidacy, which is submitted
after the appointment is made.

Section 5. That the City Clerk shall file a certified copy of this Resolution with the Board
of Supervisors and the Registrar of Voters.
The above and foregoing Resolution was passed and adopted by the City Council of the Town of
Los Altos Hills at a special meeting held on the 23rd day of August, 2012 by the following vote:
AYES: Summit, Mordo, Waldeck
NOES: None
ABSTAIN: Larsen
ABSENT: Radford

Mayor Larsen abstained from voting to cancel the election and for his appointment. He voted in
favor of appointing Courtenay Corrigan and John Harpootlian as members of the City Council
for four-year terms.
