Hi Tim and Mary,
Thank you for the reply and explanation of your concerns. what we would
propose for a methodology for the screening is the following:
1) With the story poles up we could meet to talk further about what
wall areas/wall finishes/windows are most obtrusive from your views
(either from your home or the mailbox/street area, or both), as well as
from Lois and Gary's home.
2) We would determine tree/medium-large shrub placement so as to
ultimately block those views. This could include clusters of trees
staggered with clusters of shrubs so the views of both the lower part
of the house and the upper portions are broken up substantially.
3) We have talked to Nicole at the Town and have asked her to include a
condition in the staff report for our project that would include
planting the screening trees at completion of rough grading (completion
of backfilling the foundation in this area so as to get them started
growing as soon as possible.
4) We have some more mature trees that could be transplanted to this
side of the house from other areas on the lot. They are larger (up to
10" diameter) than the boxed trees we would buy at a nursery; however,
generally transplanted trees don't ultimately grow as fast and are more
prone to problems than smaller boxed trees whose root systems develop
naturally in place. We are open to either option, or a combination of
boxed and transplants.
5) There could also be a condition that would require annual
fertilization of these trees/shrubs to encourage faster growth.
Although, we currently are fertilizing all of the newly planted trees
on the site annually anyway and would do the same for these.
If you have other ideas, please let us know. I believe Nicole is able
to include this type of condition in the staff recommendations so that
it will be carried out in a manner that you feel comfortable.

achieve something we feel good about. we feel lucky to have so many
good neighbors around us.

Dear Ms. Horvitz,
Attached please find letters of support for our project from 15 of our surrounding
neighbors. Also enclosed is a color coded plat map indicating where the support
letters have come from in relation to our lot We have also listed the comments,
concerns, or requests, if any, from our neighbors as we understand them to be.
We have exchanged several emails with Tim Taylor and Mary Barnhard regarding
their concerns about the east and south east sides of our home. We have installed
12' tall 2x6's vertically to represent a possible "Early Screening Plan' that we would
implement at the completion of backfilling the foundation and rough grading. We
believe, from the attached email from the Taylor-Barnhard family that something
along these lines may help mitigate their concerns about an adequate screening plan
actually being installed. We hope to talk further with them before the meeting this
Thursday, May 7th.

1. That the partially -paved pathway running along the western boundary of the Evans property
(our eastern boundary) be blocked from regular vehicular use by way of two posts and a
chain at each end, or some other method acceptable to the Town. For a formal description
of the pathway easement, please see ROS in Book 7451, p. 642. Surveyed by Lawrence A.
Palm (LS# 4234) recorded June, 1981.
2. That should the pathway described in item #1 ever be resurfaced, it must be done in a way
that prevents storm water from flowing westward towards our property.
3. That construction vehicles and/or traffic related to the Evans project be prohibited on the
above-described pathway, either by the installation of posts and chain as noted in item #1
above, or by orange safety cones and signs at each end of the pathway prior to construction
permits being issued.

Thanks for your email and very kind offer to work with us to establish a
detailed
landscape screening plan. permit me to give you a little background regarding
my note
to the Town expressing our concerns. In the past we have experienced some
problems
with development hearings in that the property changed ownership during the
project or
we were away and missed notification about a subsequent hearing. We travel for
extended periods fairly often and it is not at all unusual for us to be away for
far ®re
than 10 days. We were advised by the Town some time ago to express our concerns
while we had the opportunity and seek a lasting solution.
With regard to your project, our neighbors and ourselves do have some concerns
regarding screening from what appears to be a sizeable silhouette from our
direction.
Bs I meetioned when we net, you are welcome to come up the driveway from Moody
to
the mailboxes at any time and get a sense of what we, and particularly, Gary and
Iris
see when we look toward Buena Vista. I will also mention that we have never had
prospective neighbors or developers who were so proactive and understanding as
You
have been.
We would have responded earlier but have been commmicationg with Gary and
lels
about your email. They and Mary and I would like to take you up on your offer
but,
unfortunately, our schedules Won't let us do that before the hearing. From our
previous
conversation and from your recent email, it is clear to us that you are
sensitive to our
desires and that you will Work with us to set up an effective screening plan
with mature
plantings and transplants to mitigate the views as quickly as possible.
What Would Work for us would he some sort of written commitment that goes with
the
property development that provides assurance of the type of screening We have
been
talking about. Flat you mention in your email about your intentions and
suggestions
and incorporating them into your plan would seen to fit the bill.

centerlines
of trees that could be incorporated into our plans and approved by the Town.

have other some older and larger live oaks around our site, a couple of which

I am one of your neighbors up on Buena Vista Drive. I helped Harry and Helen bring your horses in one
day a couple months ago when they had broken through the gate and run up to our property. I also met
you once down on Central Drive when you were talking with Helen and Chi-kai.
We are going to the planning commission this upcoming Thursday for review of our house plans and
wanted to see if you would like an opportunity to view the plans and let us know of any concerns you
might have with the project. I am available Saturday morning from 8-10 am, Sunday morning from
10:30 to 12:00, or Monday from 10:30 am on. I don't think you can see our project for your home, so if
you don't have any concerns, would you mind signing a general letter of support? You are one of the
neighbors within the 500' radius that the town sends notices to and asks for input from.

My very long term clients and good friends, William and Dorene Mclaren live at 27570 Altamont Road
and asked me to forward this letter cited below to you. I seem to remember that our conditions for
approval on the La Vida Real Project included construction hours only Monday thru Friday 8 to 5. They
are hoping that the conditions for approval on Buena Vista might be able to be structured the same way.
They work very hard as we all do during the week and look for a little peace and quiet on the
weekends.... and any noise from the Buena Vista residences echoes across the valley and vibrates the
terrace at their Altamont home where they have been residents for nearly twenty years. Below you will
find the email that they asked me to forward. I am copying them on this email as well.

This is in regard to evening meeting for Mr Eric Evans project on Buena Vista
We reside at which lies directly below his hill top parcel.
Having met Mr Evans on his invitation with his Architect and found them to be very pleasant. We were
very impressed with the rendering for his new home and feel confident that all is professional. We are
concerned however with the hours of construction having endured painful years from our neighbour
Frank Dietrich with on and off renovation, surely there must be a time restriction for a home remodel
and especially for weekend work. We would be very obliged for any good news in this regard. I
understand that the conditions for approval on some projects has included "work time" restrictions and
this would certainly be appropriate with the close proximity of Eric Evans proposed residence and the

Richard & Debbie, I would like it on the record and at least a discussion of the fact that sewers are
available for the Evans project. They would connect through my property to Page Mill Road, along
Altamont to Briones. There is extra capacity both in the line I put in and the Briones line according to
Able Construction who did the installation.
Mr. Evans would simply have to pay his fair share of the costs per the normal Los Altos Hills
reimbursement policy.
