HomeMy WebLinkAbout08/22/1979VARIANCE AND PERMIT COMMISSION Town of Los Altos Hills 26379 Fremont Road Los Altos Hills, California MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING Wednesday, Auqust 22, 1979 Reel 79, Side 2, Tr. 2 450 to 692 Chairman Rydell called the meeting of the Variance and Permit Commission to order at 7:02 p.m. in the Council Chambers of Town Hall. ROLL CALL: Present: Commissioners Stewart, Lachenbruch and Rydell Absent: None Also Present: City Engineer/Planner John Carlson, Planner Pat Webb, Secretary Ethel Hopkins APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Chairman Rydell declared the Minutes of the meeting of June 27, 1979 approved as those who had attended the meeting had concurred that the minutes as submitted were correct. PUBLIC HEARINGS: 1. LANDS OF JANKLOW, File #VAR. 7062-79, 13464 Carillo Lane, K. Kimura, Landscape Architect, Request for Recommendation of Approval of Variance in Setback for Swimming Pool Planner Pat Webb discussed the above request, stating that the applicant had met the six criteria for the granting of a variance. She reviewed conditions to be assigned. Commissioners expressed concern on providing adequate engineering supervision on the proposed swimming pool, that a previous variance in setback had been granted for a retaining wall on the property, and whether the proposed wooden deck would be within the setback area. The hearing was opened to the public discussion. M. Kimura, Landsca e Architect, 2152 Staunton Court, Palo Alto, discussed proposed plans for the deck and pool area, alonq wit proposed landscaping. Al Jan6d Applicant, requested that the proposed deck and landscaping plan be approved as submitted. The public hearing was closed, and the following motions passed: MOTION SECONDED AND PASSED UNANIMOUSLY: It was moved by Commissioner Stewart and seconded by Commissioner Lachenbruch to add as Condition 4: The structural drawings Lw for the pool shall be approved by a licensed structural engineer, and any boiler- plate drawings shall also be approved by that same structural engineer to the satisfaction of the City Engineer. LANDS OF JANKLOW, File #VAR. 7062-79: (continued) MOTION SECONDED AND PASSED UNANIMOUSLY: It was moved by Commissioner Stewart and seconded by Commissioner Lachenbruch that the request for variance be changed to allow an eleven foot (11') encroachment for a swimming pool and deck into the side building setback line and including a twenty-six foot (26') encroachment for a pre-existing retaining wall. MOTION SECONDED AND PASSED UNANIMOUSLY: It was moved by Commissioner Stewart and seconded by Commissioner Lachenbruch to recommend approval of the variance request for the Lands of Janklow, File #VAR. 7062-79, with conditions as amended and in- cluding the six justifications for the variance as provided by Staff. Commissioner Lachenbruch noted the need to emphasize that the twenty-six foot (26') encroachment for the pre-existing retaining wall was eighteen years old and had been constructed through an approved variance.
